Why is Effective Well Integrity Management required?
Wells are initially designed and constructed to allow for the flowing or injection of hydrocarbons while incorporating adequate barriers to maintain well integrity under specified operational conditions.
However, to ensure those barriers remain effective over the well’s lifecycle requires effective monitoring and verification of the installed barrier elements and envelopes to ensure the potential failure of a single barrier element will not result in a loss of containment.
